PROJECT MANAGEMENT CERTIFICATION

Why and How do you get PMP or PRINCE2 Certified?

Project Management Certification is becoming a standard request of employers. I used to think that with thirty years of Project Management I wouldn't need it, but because it is an employment market that can be slightly over-supplied with Project Managers the employers can be more demanding.

Employers are now looking for PRINCE2 Foundation or PRINCE2 Practitioner, or the Project Management Institute's (PMI) CAPM or PMP based on the PMBOK.

A GUIDE TO THE PROJECT MANAGEMENT BODY OF KNOWLEDGE

Essential purchase for CAPM and PMP exam preparation

The PMBOK is the Project Management Institute's definitive guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge. Although members of the PMI get a free digital copy, you cannot print pages, nor cut & paste from it.

Therefore I highly recommend aquiring your hardcopy version as well. It makes a handy reference to have next to your desk, but at nearly 1,000 pages it will not fit in your hand luggage, so the digital version is also a win.

The 1,000 pages is because this 6th (2017) Edition includes the PMI's Agile Practice Guide.

DO NOT BUY THE 5th Edition.

MANAGING SUCCESSFUL PROJECTS WITH PRINCE2

PRINCE2 is an evolution of the first PRINCE method which was ‘created’ by the UK government’s Central Computer and Telecommunications Agency in 1989. It was an adaptation of another organisation’s methodology for which the CCTA had a licence, and is now owned by Axelos.

The PRINCE2 Foundation and PRINCE2 Practitioner certification requires knowledge of the PRINCE2 method and framework of project management. It certifies a level of knowledge and understanding, creating a common language amongst PM professionals who then ‘tailor’ it to meet the governance needs of the project.

The official guide from Axelos - Managing Successful Projects with PRINCE2 - is a delightfully well laid out book with clever use of colour and tabs to make it a handy reference book.
